The best way to make money online also happens to be incredibly boring and tedious at times.

Yep, that’s right, nothing glamorous about it and you certainly won’t get famous doing it. But it works and works very well. That’s all that matters!

So, what is this wonderful yet boring way to make money online?

It goes a little something like this…

1) Find a niche – Do keyword research until you find a niche worth going after. This has to be one that doesn’t have too much competition so you can actually rank highly on Google for it fairly quickly. It also needs to have a good amount of profit potential. That basically means enough people searching for the keywords who are going to spend money.

2) Build a website – Once you have found your niche it’s time to build a website. There are a few different types of sites you can build and the type you choose will depend on what your niche is targeting. The most common are blogs and static sites but there are others.

3) Write some content – You need to get a good base of content on your site. Usually somewhere around 10 posts/pages are sufficient to get you started. These can typically be written within a few hours depending on how much knowledge you have of the niche or how much research you need to do.

4) Get backlinks – This is extremely important! Each of the steps above is mostly just to lay the foundation so you can start building backlinks. There are many different ways to get the best backlinks possible and it has been covered enough here on this blog and on many others, so I won’t get into it right now.

5) Rinse and repeat – Do it all over again in another niche and keep doing it.

There’s nothing fancy or glorious about those 5 steps and they can be quite boring at times, yet that is the best way to make money online. You can cash in on a virtually unlimited supply of niches and the income keeps adding up until you are really raking it in.

The best part about it is that once the initial work has been done with each site, you can move on to the next and continue to earn money from it with very little extra work. The search engine traffic keeps coming in every day like clockwork and you keep earning every day without do any extra work on the site. You just keep building your online empire and your income keeps increasing. That’s what you call a residual income!

Now, in order to do this, you need to quit doing all the “fun” stuff that isn’t earning you any money. Stop trying to figure out how to make money with Twitter. Stop sitting on Facebook and Myspace all day. Stop worry about how many times your posts make the front page of Digg. Stop hitting all the social sites every day. Stop reading every blog post you come across trying to find the next big thing that is going to make you rich. Stop focusing on building a bunch of RSS subscribers for your blog. Stop reading email and forums all day so you don’t miss something. Stop buying into all the hype of big name bloggers and internet marketing gurus. Stop joining membership sites and purchasing every new make money online system or product. Stop… Stop… Stop!

Okay, I think you get my point. None of that is really helping you build your internet business and actually make money for you. Yes, some of it does help a little and some of it is entertaining, but it’s mostly a waste of your time! No problem taking a little time out of your day for some of those things as a sort of break. But don’t get sucked in or you’ll end up wasting away your day without doing anything really productive. Your days might be a little more lonely and boring but your bank account will thank you.

Personally I would rather be a little bored sitting at my home computer working when I want, with a bank account full of money and enjoying my life, than trying to become the next big A-list blogger, having fun with social media sites, but broke as hell and going about it all wrong. Or worse, slaving away at a regular job that I hate and barely getting by on the money I earn. How about you? You do actually want to make money, don’t you? Then listen to what I am saying here!

Courtney Tuttle and Mark Butler don’t make these kind of promises, but what they do is give you a clear roadmap how to make real online passive income with a bit of hard work and dedication. This roadmap takes the form of the core videos that take you through the basics of MMO, from setting up a site, to how to choose a keyword, how to get your site ranked for keywords, and finally how to monetize your site. Have more questions after you watch the webinars? Well that’s not an issue because there are hundreds of experts on their friendly forum who are happy to answer any questions you might have. It’s a great additional resource.

For people more advanced in the make money online world there are benefits of The Keyword Academy for them too. Included with your subscription is the guest posting system (which allows you to automatically post articles on other peoples sites to build links) and more recently a keyword selection tool that scans .csv files for low competition keywords that will help you make money with niche sites.

- Link Bait Posts

…And several more. The point is that you will never run out of places to get backlinks and you should never stop trying to get them. They are extremely important to your success at making money online.

Getting almost any backlink to your website is better than nothing but certain inbound links are a lot better than others. If you can get these particular links they will help you exponentially more than any other type. So, you should spend a larger portion of your time going after these backlinks.

So, without further ado, here are the criteria for finding the best type of backlinks for making money online…

1) From a Related Site – Generally the rule is that the best inbound links are from websites that are related to yours. That means they are in the same or similar niche and the content is related to what you have on your website. For example: A link from an internet home business related site to your make money online site would be great.

2) Keyword Anchored – You definitely want keyword anchored links whenever possible because the anchor text tells the search engines what to rank you for in their results. For that reason the anchor text should include the main keywords you want your website to rank highly for on Google and other SE’s.

For example: If your website is about making money online then you might anchor your links with keywords such as; make money online, earn money on the internet, money making, how to make money, ways to make money online, and other similar phrases. Be sure to vary the anchor text because it’s not good to have them all the same. You should also have plenty of links that are not keyword anchored but that will happen naturally so you don’t really need to worry about it right now.

3) From an Authority Site – A link from a highly ranked site in your niche is very beneficial to you. These are typically called authority site links and they will help your rankings quite a bit.

4) High PR Site – PR is short for “Page Rank” and that is one way that Google measures the importance of a web page. When you have a backlink from a website with high PR it will carry a lot more weight than one from a site with low or no PR. This will give you more “link juice” and help improve your rankings even more.

5) Do Follow – It should go without saying that part of the criteria for the best backlink is that it is a “dofollow” link. If the “nofollow” tag is applied to your link then you are getting very little benefit from it as far as search engine rankings are concerned. You need do follow backlinks to help you make money online with SEO.

6) One Way – A one way backlink is when a site is linking to your website for whatever reason without you giving them a link back. These are very high quality and are typically considered to be the best type of inlinks you can get.

That’s basically all there is to finding the best backlinks for making money online. If you get a backlink that includes all six of the criteria listed above then it is about as perfect of a link as you will ever get. The more you can get like this the better, and it won’t be long before you see top search engine rankings and start earning more money from your website!

Ok so I’m getting a little ahead of myself I guess. First things first, the google sandbox effect is a phenomena where a site climbs in the SERPs too quickly and subsequently is applied a temporary penalty. The penalty can last anywhere from a couple of months to nine or more. A site that is seemingly going strong, climbing up towards a magical page one ranking, flies too close to the sun and gets knocked down a peg.

So what exactly gets a site relegated to the dreaded depths of the sandbox? Well this is where the debate truly heats up. We all know that the basic thing that happens is a quick climb followed by an even quicker fall, but there is more to it than that. A lot of people think that getting only strong links (in content, from high page rank, and high trust rank pages) will keep you out of the box. Others think the key is building links very slow and steady, not setting off any red flags. To be truthful I don’t have the answer to this question, but one can take a good lesson here anyway. Build your links naturally, which means slowly and from a wide range of quality sites.

Another thing to think about is why does google even have the sandbox? Well that isn’t too complicated to figure out, and since google is logical it also seems to be result that supports the theory. Google has the sandbox to, like everything they do, fight spam. Think about it, spammers are generally into sites for the short haul, the quick buck. When they run the risk of google slapping their sites down it deters them from building in the first place because unlike those of us who build a passive income they want a site to pay off short term.

A final question that is interesting to consider, and probably more useful is what to do if you think you are in the sandbox. The answer there is simple in the MMO world, keep building links. That’s all you need to do if you find yourself in the sandbox, or just in the midst of a normal shuffle. Don’t complicate things unless you’re just looking for some good mental exercise.

1) Google Adsense – This is one of the best ways to make money on the internet because you can put it in almost any type of website and it is completely free to join. Of course, there are a lot of different strategies and techniques for maximizing your Adsense earnings but I won’t go into that here. There’s plenty of information about that freely available all over the internet.

2) Affiliate Marketing – You can earn a great living as an affiliate marketer. There’s an affiliate program for products or services on almost every topic you can think of. You can join them for free and get paid commissions on every sale you bring in. This is right up there with Adsense as one of the best ways to make money on the internet because it’s typically free and very easy to get started.

3) Information Products – I’m sure you’ve probably bought at least one ebook from a website and if you haven’t then you have certainly heard of them. These are called information products and they are very good way to start your own online business. If you have a lot of knowledge about a particular topic and can write your own ebook then you could make a lot of money from it. This is a little more difficult than affiliate marketing because you have to actually create the product and website. However, the rewards can be much greater if you write a very useful ebook, market it well, and get your own affiliates promoting it.

4) Blogging – It seems like pretty much everyone has at least one blog these days and many more are being started every day. Blogs are very popular for many reasons. One of those reasons is because they can be used to make money on the internet. You can start a blog about virtually any topic and monetize it with Adsense, affiliate programs, advertising sales, your own product, or any of several other ways to make money blogging.

5) Freelancing – There are many internet marketers, bloggers, website owners, business owners, and just regular people who need stuff done for them. It can be content writing, web design, programming, link building, marketing, copywriting, or many other things. If you have one of those skills, you can make money doing freelance work for these people.

6) Site Flipping – This is similar to flipping houses in the offline world. You buy a website (or build one) then “fix” it up and sell it for a big profit. You can make it look better by giving it a better theme, increase its rankings and traffic, build up its subscribers, get it earning more money, etc… And then you can sell it for a substantial amount more than you bought it for. This is a very popular way to make money on the internet right now.

7) eBay – No big secret here. Almost everyone knows you can make money online with eBay. Sell stuff you already own but want to get rid of, create a product to sell, get into drop shipping, find items at garage sales or wherever else for really cheap and resell them at a higher price, or anything else you want. There are a lot of ways to make money with eBay.

8) Get Paid To (GPT) Sites – You can get paid to take surveys online, complete free offers, try products, read emails, post in forums, or a whole bunch of other things. These can be a good way to make extra money online but don’t expect to get rich doing it. You usually only earn a small amount for each task. Although it can add up over time.
