Using YouTube For Boosting Your Affiliate Commissions

While most individuals have some sense of the power YouTube can have to drive traffic, not nearly enough internet marketers realize just how powerful videos can be in boosting your results as an affiliate. There are many online marketers who make the majority of their income from affiliate commissions and every edge that an affiliate marketer can get could mean more sales and more commissions.

Choose Your Target

The first step is to choose your target for the video. Are you looking to promote a new internet marketing course or are you looking to boost traffic to Amazon affiliate and eCommerce websites to make your money that way? YouTube can be used for both of these types of affiliate setups but the best practices for your videos varies depending on which way you go.

Look For Trigger Words

This is a good rule no matter what type of affiliate program you’re in or setup you’re running. Trigger words are certain words that make Google more likely to include a lot of YouTube videos in the normal search engine results and often towards the top of page one. These would be words like review, video review, free (product name) review, (product) demonstration, and so on.

Creating videos with a title that uses those words can drive some serious traffic to your video review, which then can link to the offer, a website sales page, or have links for both!

Target Longtail Keywords

If you are looking long term at ranking for certain product keywords then look for longtail keywords that you can rank a YouTube video for. Review keywords are always a good choice but by making multiple videos that are each targeting a certain keyword, you can get those videos to rank, get the traffic, and then use as solid links back to your main affiliate website. This is a killer way to increase your affiliate commissions with a relatively small amount of work.

When you are using YouTube videos, the video description allows hundreds of words of content so be sure to use that to your advantage! It does not take much work to properly optimize a YouTube video to rank in the search engines. A good title with the keyword, a long description that is original with some longtail keywords, and the right tags will help your video to rank. By making your video five minutes or longer, these can be given more authority than shorter ones.

Learn YouTube SEO

YouTube has its own SEO system for ranking videos within the website. Learning the basics about this will help you to optimize your videos to be found when people search YouTube and more traffic means more money. While ranking at the top of YouTube does not always mean your video will be the one that ranks on Google (or vice-versa) it still helps your chances to take care of these details.

Create Multiple YouTube Videos As Needed

If there are multiple longtail keyword videos or multiple review videos, make a playlist and include all of yours together. This will tell YouTube and Google that these videos are related and help them rank for related keywords while also giving them a boost in the YouTube search rankings.

YouTube is a powerful tool that can help drive affiliate sales for more earnings. Be sure that you use video marketing to your advantage!

How Social Media Killed My Business

This post was inspired by Jill Whalen. She mentioned recently that she was waiting for the blog post “How Social Media Killed My Business” so here it is just for you Jill…

One upon a time, I used to have a thriving online business. I mean I was seriously kicking ass. The money was rolling in every minute of the day. I could do what I wanted when I wanted and didn’t have a care in the world. My life was totally amazing. It was way better than anyone else’s I know and everyone was jealous of me. I had it made!

I had a ton of websites and all of them were constantly bringing in a boat load of traffic and sales every day. My business was running like a well oiled super duper awesome machine. My system was flawless and I had it mastered. I was at the point where all I had to do was write up some content each morning and build some backlinks each evening. The rest of the time I did whatever the hell I wanted and the money just poured in.

But then something happened. My life slowly started falling apart. My business was fading away. I couldn’t control it. There was nothing I could do. It was a habit; no it was an addiction that I couldn’t kick. I didn’t even know it was taking hold of me until it was too late. My online business was ruined, gone forever.

I was told there was no help for what I had. It couldn’t be cured. But what was it? Nobody really knew for sure.

It was just something called…

Social Media!

Looking back it all seemed so innocent and fun. I got a Myspace account when I was in college. Then, Facebook started getting popular so I had to have both. Next, Twitter popped up. Somewhere along the way I also joined Linkedin, Youtube, Digg, Delicious, Mixx, Reddit, Stumbleupon, Hi5, Friendster, Blogcatalog, Mybloglog, and so many more. I can’t even remember them all.

All I know is that I HAD to be on them. I even told myself at first that all these social sites were helping my business and I was really working when I was on them. First it was weekly, then daily, then hourly, and finally every second of every day now.

There is no way out! And more keep popping up all the time. Google+ is my newest craving, desire, addiction. I think about it constantly. This must be insanity!

Now, my business is long gone and I haven’t had a real face-to-face conversation with anyone since I don’t know when. My social media accounts are all I have now. I wake up to them and I can’t sleep at night because of them. They keep me going at all times. I couldn’t exist without Facebook and the others.

So, that is the short story of how social media killed my business. Ok actually I just started typing and made the whole thing up in the past few minutes. However, now that I am done writing, I can see that it really does have some truth to it. Damn you social media, damn you!
